Martin Swain, creator and writer for Project Studio Blog, is a University Graduate, Music Technician and Recording Engineer based in the Southwest of the UK. His desire to record audio was founded in the summer of 2007 after growing tired of recording guitar ideas through an in-built microphone on a cheap cassette deck. Since then, Martin has constantly researched the subject in order to become as knowledgeable as possible, ultimately getting great recordings which his portfolio shows for it.

Martin became an intern at a local recording studio in the summer of 2009 from asking the studio owner one night when his band at the time were rehearsing; he gained valuable hands-on experience mixing local artists and sitting in on recording sessions. After leaving the studio the following year to focus on his degree, Martin had acclimatised various equipment to which he used to record local talent on his own; effectively, having a mobile studio which could be taken to a remote location without the high price-tag and the pressures that come from a commercial studio.

From gaining followers from Audio Engineers alike all over the world, Martin is recognised and a part of the online audio recording community on Twitter. As a result, this landed him his internship at the well-renowned Ranch Production House in Nursling, just outside Southampton, after being asked by senior engineer, Neil Kennedy, whether he’d like to become an intern. Whilst working towards his Bachelor of Arts Degree and working at The Ranch on weekends, Martin has worked with many bands all over the country and of varying genres. These include bands such as Fallacies, Donnie Brasco and Forever Can Wait, who have since been played on Kerrang! radio and played Download Festival in 2013.

After coming home from university for Christmas in 2011, Martin was invited to the prestigious Weymouth College award ceremony, where he won the title for being ‘Music Student of the Year’. In 2012, Martin graduated from university, and secured his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Popular Music Production at Solent University, from which he achieved a 2:1. Martin is now the Music Technician at his local college, where he maintains studio and musical equipment, as well as recording local talent in his spare time which include bands such as WeWhoDare, Summer Drive Home, Fissure of Riddles and Light Fire Down, who have had their debut EP up for streaming on the very popular Punktastic website and have also been played on BBC Introducing.

In 2014, Martin was interviewed by the Audio Pro International website for their ‘Rising Stars’ feature, and in September of that year, he was nominated for an award by API as being one of fifty top ‘Rising Stars’. Putting his name firmly on the audio recording map, Martin has been gaining local popularity for his recordings and mixes.
